Two Months

Extremely late post, but we've had a little cold making its way through our house and I've been down for the count. Finally feeling back to normal (as normal as possible with an ever changing two month old). Emerson is now 11 going on 12 weeks old.

Emerson continues to change on a daily basis and I'm loving every minute of it. He had his two month checkup and we have a tall, skinny, big brained boy. He grew another two inches this month, making him a whopping 24 in tall. This puts him in the 84th percentile for his height. Still not sure where he's getting his height from. His head is also growing strong. He now has a 16 in round head, which is also in the 84th percentile. The only place he doesn't seem to be getting bigger is on the scale. He weighed in at 11 lbs, which is .9 oz shy of gaining the recommended minimum two lbs per month (based on weight leaving the hospital - 7.9). This puts him in the very low 11th percentile. It's pretty easy to see that he isn't a chunky boy so I was stressed that I wasn't producing enough milk for him. Our pedi wasn't concerned about his weight and ensured me that I was producing just fine. Although she wasn't worried, we did start supplementing a few ounces of formula each day. It's so hard to find time to pump and I need to start stockpiling for daycare so giving him a formula bottle instead of the boob gives me a chance. We supplemented for one week and he was already looking heavier to me and AJ. Emerson doesn't love the formula taste, but eventually takes the bottle. He was doing okay with the formula, but then one day he had a bad reaction to it. He had drank two breast milk bottles and then had a formula bottle and within 15 minutes he threw up EVERYTHING. It was a literal fountain of breast milk and formula. It was very scary because he actually choked because there was too much coming out. For the rest of the day he drank breast milk, but we gave him another formula bottle before bed and he did the same thing. We aren't sure if he wasn't feeling well or if it was the formula that made him sick, but that was the last day he's had formula. He slept for 7 hours that night so I'm hoping thinking he must have been not feeling good because he hasn't slept that long since. I still bring the formula with me when we are out and about and I'm a lot less stressed knowing that he can have formula at daycare if he drinks all my milk. Fingers crossed our skinny boy will bulk up a little before his 4 month checkup!

In addition to getting weighed and measured, Emerson got his first round of vaccines. It was heartbreaking to watch my little guy get poked with needles. I can't stand to hear him cry, let alone cry so hard that no sound comes out. Even though I wasn't the one getting the shots, I'm pretty sure it was more painful for me. It took everything not to break down in the Dr's office, but I held it together. Emerson looked so pitiful the rest of the day. After shots it's typical for babies to be lethargic all day and possibly run a low-grade fever for a day or two. I let the pedi know that AJ was just getting over a cold and I was just coming down with one. She told me that if his fever lasts more than two days he's more than likely sick. Our poor baby had a 100 degree fever for three days. We gave him infant Tylenol, but it never got lower than 99 degrees. AJ and I thought for sure that we had given him our cold, but after three days his temp was back to normal and so was his personality. I don't know what I'll do when he actually comes down with something more than a fever because it was so sad to see him so miserable.
Passed out with a fever
This month Emerson has started to hold his head up 90% of the time. Occasionally his neck gets a little tired and we end up with a fat lip from his head butts. He has also become obsessed with his feet. He can't quite reach them yet, but he sure is trying. Even with socks on he'll stare at his toes and you can tell he has made the connection that he's moving them.

Emerson had a very busy month! Although we said we'd wait, we decided to take Emerson to his 2nd A's game! We had to go to the last home game of the season and possible Division clinching game so we brought Emerson along. He was such a great baby! We were smart this time and brought his ear protection headphones and thank goodness we did cause it got LOUD when the A's clinched! It was so awesome being at this game because AJ and I were at the game last year when they clinched! At the game AJ & Emerson (I was pumping in the bathroom) were interviewed by a bay area news channel and apparently AJ was a real bore. We don't get the news channel, but our bay area family told us Emerson stole the show. How couldn't this stud be a news sensation?!

Typical parents-we both have spit up on our shirts.
We also took Emerson to his first wedding this month. It was a family friend that got married so my whole fam bam dressed up for the event! Of course Emerson was a perfect baby; well almost perfect. The wedding was the day after we introduced formula and his little tummy wasn't quite adjusted. During the speeches my Mom held up Emerson so that I could see that he had EXPLODED his diaper all up his back. Of course his first explosion was during a wedding when he was looking dapper in his button up shirt, cords, and a yellow bow tie. We only got one pic before he had his wardrobe malfunction and their photographer took it so I'll be buying a copy. Here are some pics that we did get.

Auntie was blocking his outfit with the burp rag.

He loves Grandma and Papa
It's been such a fun month with my little boy, but it's also been bitter sweet. Knowing that he's almost 3 months old means it's time for me to head back to work. I was supposed to start next week, but with this government shut down we may be shut down too. I'm not exactly upset over this, it just means more time with my son! I've been very lucky and have had my part time request approved. Whenever I do go back it will only be for three days a week - the longest three days of my life! We took Emerson to meet his daycare lady this week and she loves him. He was in a grumpy mood because he was tired so not quite sure if he likes her yet. As much as I hate leaving him, I know he's going to a wonderful daycare.

I know they can still change, but as of now my son is a brown eyed beauty. I was really hoping he'd get my green eyes, but Dad's hazel/brown eyes won. Who was I kidding, this kid is his Dad's twin so of course he'd get his eyes. His hair has started to grow back so he's looking less Costanza these days. He is changing so much and he no longer looks like a newborn. It's crazy how fast time is flying by. Pretty soon my son will be sitting up on his own, teething, and giggling and I can't wait! Here are a few pictures and videos to send you off!

Emerson's cousin and our flower girl. She's the only person who makes Emerson look big!
