7 months

Well technically you're 7 1/2 months now...whoops! I guess it's a good thing that I don't get paid to write this blog or maybe that would motivate me!

This last month has brought us so many new adventures. I know I say this every post, but Emerson you're changing everyday. At 7 months, you've mastered sitting up. Well maybe not mastered, but close to it. You're learning how to sit up from a leaning position and you catch your balance when you start to wobble.

I'd say Mommy and Daddy have a very lazy boy. Up until a week or so ago you refused to use your arms to help you with getting around, but that's finally changed (a little). You're finally started to pull yourself up from your back when Mommy grabs your hands. It's one step at a time though, cause you're still not using your arms when you roll from your back to your belly. That's right, you can roll onto your tummy now! As great as that is for you, it's not been so bueno for Mama Bear. You've become a crazy rascal now when your on the changing pad and in your crib. We've officially reached the point where we can't walk away from the changing pad without strapping you down. It's only a matter of time before you realize that using your arms will actually get you places. Mommy and Daddy better enjoy the immobility while it lasts.

In addition to using your arms (sort of), you've also started using your legs...a lot! If you lean too far forward (if Mommy isn't watching closely) you push off and fall face first. This only happens on the couch so you're not getting hurt, just tougher. You've also started to push your butt into the air when you're on your tummy. I see crawling in the very near future or you may just skip that step and go straight to walking because you went from bending your legs anytime we stood you up to standing tall and proud. We actually caught a pic of you standing on your own...a very quick pic (see pic #2).

We need you to start moving soon or we may have to start buying Pull-ups for diapers. You are the only small baby in big baby diapers I know of. You're currently in size 4, but I don't see these lasting much longer. I haven't looked at what is offered in the next size up, but I'm assuming they don't get much bigger before they're Pull-ups. According to weight, you should be wearing size 3's, but your thunder thighs were getting squeezed. Your thighs are huge, which equals an overload of cuteness in my eyes!! Hoping that once you start crawling around they'll slim down or at least not get any bigger.

Speaking of weight, last week you weighed in at 17 lbs 8 oz. We had to take you to the Dr because of a terrible cough that I was worried might be more. The Dr. checked your lungs and ears and they were both clear so it was just a nasty cold that had to run it's course. It was a very tough week for you. If you weren't waking up from coughing, you were waking up crying, squished against your crib. We had to prop your mattress up to help your congestion and since you roll all night you kept rolling into the side of the crib. It was three long nights of this before you finally started feeling better. And then I caught it....story of my life.

In better news, your vocabulary is expanding. Daddy was very excited when you started saying dada, but I still say you're only making noises. You haven't called Daddy Dada yet; it's more like a broken record: dadadadadadada. Since this is one of your first sounds I'm sure Dada is soon to follow, but I'm hoping you surprise us both and blurt out MAMA!

At six months you had just started eating baby food handmade by me and although you are still eating baby food, it's no longer made by me. I tried to be super mom and that only lasted about two weeks. I just didn't see why I needed to be stressing out when Gerber makes perfectly good and healthy food. Plus they make many more flavors than your Mama did. You're our little piglet who eats anything we put on a spoon. The fruit mixes seem to be your favorite, but like I said you eat it all. The only food you make a face at bite after bite is peas, but you still eat it all. We just hope you keep up this try-anything appetite when you get to that picky toddler phase.

Finally I'd just like to say thank you for sleeping an average of 10-11 hours every night! Love you to the moon and back baby boy!

Once again I'm a tad late. These weeks are coming and going way too fast! Last weekend we were on the hunt for the perfect park for Emerson's first birthday. As most of you know AJ and I both come from HUGE families so having Emerson's party at our average sized home is not really an option. We have big plans (plans vs reality) to landscape our backyard this Spring, but even having that extra space wouldn't provide us with enough room so a park it is!

We already had a certain park in mind, but last time we were at it we were playing softball and not looking at it from the party perspective. We headed back to this park and took in the scenery and tested out the goods. Emerson had a couple of firsts while we were there. He sat in and touched grass for the first time and took a little ride in a swing. He was entertained by both!

This park is a big winner in our book! Now only 138 days left to plan!
